TRAINING:
I will do specific training on how to work with the student you are assigned to in class. This is a synopsis of the training we do in class as a whole group. It is a good place to reference if you forget something or if you need a refresher. It also helps if you missed the first day or two of the trimester. You'll get more in-depth information here:

RESEARCH PAPER:
The research is due the last Monday of the trimester. Check the handout for the due date. If you turn it in early, I will grade it and then you have the opportunity to correct any errors. This is not an option if turned in on time.

Research Paper:
Choose only 1 topic, not 1 from each category. Make sure to follow the rubric and guidlines outlined in this handout for full points. Yes, there is a specific size of font I want you to use. No, the title of the paper does not count towards the length. Yes, you have to leave the margins at 1 inch on every side. Yes, you do have to type it, and use spell check!

Alternate Research Paper:
A few students have gotten approval to do the alternate research paper for various reasons. See me for the activities you are to do!

Week 1:
Week 2:
Week 3:
1) Don't just think aboutt he students in this class. They represent a small number of possible disabilities. Are all people with disabilities capable of doing all of the things you like to do before, during, or after school? Are people usually willing to accommodate them by changing how they do a certain activity or do they just say the person can't do it and exclude them? 2) think about how having a true friend without disabilities makes a student with a disability feel like they are a part of the community. Could this help them feel more "normal?"
Week 4:
1) Don't use my example and be specific! 3) Think about after you graduate school and outside of helping people with disabilities. How will this help you be a better person then?
Week 5:
You don't need to do any research for this! Just tell me what you think you want to do your paper on right now. If you change your mind by the time you start writing your paper, it's OK.
|
Week 6:
Week 7:
The list does not count towards your 1/2 page! Make sur to answer all aspects of the questions in your response.
Week 8:
If you work with a student that doesn't speak much or share about themselves much, tell about what you've observed. This can be about the student you worked with the first half of the trimester, the student you currently work with, or both. If you absolutely cannot fill 1/2 a page with info about the students you have worked with, talk about other kids in the class as well.
Week 9:
While I do not expect you to do any research for this reflection log, you should have started writing your research paper by now. You should know enough about the disability you chose to do this Reflection Log. If you are writing about a famous person, write about what it would be like to have the disability they have. If you are writing about the Special or Para Olympics, what do you think it would be like to participate in it. See me if you have chosen another topic and we'll figure out how to modify this to fit your subject. Alternate Paper: write about what your life would be like if you had any of the disabilities you learned about doing the activities you chose.
